Joshua Searle is an Australian-Colombian artist whose practice delves into socio-cultural issues, diasporic identity, and the legacies of colonisation. Born in 1998 and raised on the Mornington Peninsula, he is a self-taught painter who employs a diverse range of mediums, including acrylic, oil stick, oil pastel, enamel, and spray paint on canvas.
Searle's work confronts issues while celebrating Black excellence and his Colombian heritage, employing figurative repetitive figures to adapt meaning within diverse contexts. His practice frequently employs figurative repetition, with meaning shifting in response to historical and personal contexts.
