The Lennox hosted an exhibition in February celebrating the life and art of Melbourne artist Joan Letcher. Featuring collages and paintings covering her
career from 1989 to her final painting, unfinished on her passing in January, the show was a small sampling of an immensely varied, striking, and affecting body of
work. Joan was described in the early 1990s as “probably the foremost practitioner of Melbourne’s emerging ‘underground’ art style, the New Assemblage”, and the
exhibition represented both that earlier period and her later unseen paintings following her retirement from exhibiting after 2011.
